Late Valentine's Celebration

Monday, February 22, 2010 |
So, I mentioned in an earlier post that Hubby and I don't do Valentine presents. HOWEVER, we do cook each other an extravagant meal every year. We've been doing this ever since we got married, so this is year 11. Wow! We alternate each year on who gets the responsibility. This year was/is my year to cook. We had too much going on last weekend, so we did our big dinner on Friday night after the little munchkin went to bed. This year wasn't quite as "over the top" as we usually make it. I normally print out a menu and serve the dinner in courses, but I just didn't have the time this year.
I've been looking at recipes all week and trying to decide what to make. Hubby really wanted a steak, so I knew that was a definite. I went and visited the Pioneer Woman and Food TV for a few recipes too.

Here's what we ended up with:

Steak - (Tenderloin for me and Ribeye for Hubby)

Perfect Potatoes Au Gratin
Hot out of the oven

Parmesan Roasted Broccoli

Hubby's Plate

My plate

Molten Chocolate Lava Cakes with Vanilla Ice Cream & Dulce de Leche Sauce  - I added the ice cream and sauce myself (you know, b/c it needed to be richer). Recipe calls for whipped cream.

It was a fabulous meal. Since munchkin isn't eating candy yet, we got him a little toy for Valentine's Day.

Oh, wow, your meal looks divine! All of it.....every course. Now, I'm hungry.

In regards to your comment on my blog.....me, too.....salt on everything. Even pizza. It's a tough habit to break!

Haha love the difference between both of your plates. Looks like Tony & I. And then he'll say, "what's goin on over here...?" And eat whatever is left on mine.
What a great idea instead of gifts!

DELICIOUS!

That is extravagant. We're not a huge one for spending on Valentine's. We always like to do something special, I'll make a card or breakfast in bed but that's about it.

Love the nursery! It looks huge! And such a sweet story on the quilt. Bittersweet indeed.
