Life Lately

We live in North Texas and our weather has gone from being bundled up like this (10 days ago)

to wearing short sleeved shirts and riding scooters outside
(yes, I'm aware that he has a long sleeve shirt on too, but he really didn't need it)
It was in the high 70's all weekend here - lots of wind though and whatever blew in is making me and Hudson miserable with our allergies. We're both sneezing and coughing - not a pretty sight. But, I drugged us both up with Claritin and we spent lots of time outside.

One of my favorite things that arrived on Friday was this lovely. Who knew I would be so excited about a new double stroller?? Casey, you were so right. Worth every penny. And Hudson loves it too. In fact, he insisted on sitting in it as he watched cartoons on SAT morning.

Switching gears - Trey cooked his Valentine's dinner on Friday night and it was fabulous!
He even found pasteurized brie for me. So sweet.
Surf and Turf, baby. Delicious.

While Trey made my dinner, Hudson enjoyed his new favorite bath time activity.
Bath crayons!
Masterpiece

On Saturday, he decided to dress himself - Elmo t-shirt and camo shorts. Lookin good.

We hung out with Erin and Perry that evening (I talked him into changing his shirt before Aunt Erin saw it)
Whooo-Whooo -- I wonder if Hudson thought the owl would talk back?
He and Pearl became best buds.

They played for hours. No joke. I wonder how much Pearl charges to babysit??

My mom and I went to IKEA yesterday. Holy dealio!! I got a ton of stuff for so cheap. I still can't believe it. Stay tuned to see it all. I'm so excited about it. And......Hudson's new room should be finished up by this weekend. Can't wait to show you all. Lots of projects in work.

Last but certainly not least, my lie was # 5.

Adios.

You Can't Handle the Truth

I'm stealing this from a few other blogs - including Sara and Casey - thanks for the idea, girls! I'm going back to my high school/college years for these stories. FIVE of these are true stories and ONE of them is a lie. You tell me which one is the lie.

Five Truths & A Lie

1) I was so drunk in high school that I fell off my loft bed in the middle of the night and cut my head open. My mom had to take me and a friend to the ER at 3am. It took 8 stitches. My mom was proud (insert sarcasm).

2) A friend and I drove from Fort Worth, TX to Vicksburg, MS to Greensboro, SC to Macon, GA over Christmas break one year in college - all to see Widespread Panic.

3) My mom took me and 3 of my best friends to see The Black Crowes during my junior year in high school. She went off and forgot her drivers license at home, so I had to buy beer with my fake ID.

4) I studied abroad in England during my junior year of college. When we went to sign up for classes, the school told us that we were already 6 weeks behind schedule and would have to make up all of the work. They also wanted me to take a puppetry class for my public relations major. We stayed for 8 days and then came home.

5) I used to ride my bike to class in college. One day, I tried to pop a curb in front of the BA building and busted flat on my ass. Tons of people saw and couldn't help but laugh. No one offered to help me up. Mortified is a good word to describe my emotions at that time.

6) I gave my cousin my real ID when I turned 21 so that she could use it. One day, she got pulled over by the police and accidently handed them my ID instead of her own. Luckily, she came up with a pretty quick story and they believed it.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Things are changing around our household. I'm in nesting mode right now and I told Trey that he better take advantage of it before I get too big and miserable to do anything.

We've decided to use Hudson's nursery as the baby's room and move Hudson into a new room with a new big boy bed! I found a bed that I thought was so cute and Trey's having a guy make it for me as I type. I can't wait to see the whole thing come together. Here's a sneak peak as to what it will resemble. I'm not copying the colors of this room though. I just thought using the pallets as a headboard was really cute. And I love the stenciled monogram inside the empty frame. Definitely using that!

We also moved a queen size bed into the nursery so that one of us (ahem, that'd be me!) can sleep in there when this baby arrives. I plan on starting this one out in the crib instead of a bassinet. That's my plan anyway! Pictures to come on the new nursery set up. I still haven't decided on bedding since we're not finding out the sex of Baby #2. I found a place online where you can pick out a girls bedding set and a boys bedding set and then have your doctor's office call them to tell them which one to make. Once the baby is born, you tell them to ship it. I thought that was a pretty clever idea! I may do that.
A picture with the queen bed in the nursery - I'm pleased with it.
And I'll move all of the Hudson stuff after we get him settled in his new room.

Hudson's 2nd birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks!! We're doing a joint birthday party with his buddy, Sheldon. It should be a lot of fun. We've got bounce houses rented and my mom is making the cake again this year. Hudson loves trains and Sheldon loves Mickey Mouse, so she's doing a combination of the two. Can't wait to see what she comes up with!
The invite

In other news - my awesome, wonderful friend Casey is doing a giveaway on her blog and it just happens to be something that I'm in need of very badly. Go check it out and enter! Cute stuff.

Tootles!

Love Day!!

Funny how Valentine's Day changes when you have a kid. Trey and I used to spend hours looking over recipes and trying to figure out the perfect menu for our fabulous Valentine's meal. We started a tradition when we got married 12 years ago where one person cooks the other person a really nice meal....we switch off each year. This year is Trey's year to cook and we decided to wait until next weekend to celebrate. I'll let you know how it turns out!

Anyway, instead of spending hours going over recipes, I spent the day on Saturday ordering cupcakes and cookies for Hudson's Valentine's Day party at school and then putting them in bags and tying ribbons. The cupcakes were for the party and the cookies were to give out as his Valentine. They turned out really cute!

The party went well too. As well as a party can go with eight 2 year olds running around getting sugared up on cupcakes. Here's most of his class enjoying their cupcakes...
Hud's buddy, Sheldon knows how to eat his sweets!
For some reason, Hudson and Sheldon both like to climb into this play sink. Then they get stuck and can't get out. It baffles me every time I see them doing this. Monkey see-Monkey do.
I'm also starting to fear that Hudson is a bully. I watched this little encounter take place. Sheldon was laying on this beanbag minding his own business, when BAM! - here's comes Hudson.
Victory. And obviously very proud of himself.
But Sheldon didn't let Hudson celebrate for long. He came back to stake his claim. I don't blame him.

These two boys are definitely the Type A personalities in the classroom. Probably because they were born 2 days apart. It'll be interesting to see them grow up together. They're having a joint birthday party in a couple of weeks too. More to come on that...... I can't believe he's turning TWO!

Happy Valentine's Day, my friends!!
Hope it's filled with lots of love and laughter!

Getaway!

Last week's weather was pretty bad in North Texas. We had school closings, business closings, icy roads and even a little bit of snow. Trey and I left town on Thursday morning for a little Colorado getaway with some friends! I was worried that we wouldn't be able to get out of town. Luckily though, we had the Super Bowl crowd to our advantage. There was no way that D/FW was going to shut down the airport with so many people flying in for the big game!

We left 15 degree temperatures in TX to arrive in Vail at -5 temperatures - fun stuff! It's funny how it doesn't seem so cold in Colorado though. I think it's because it's a dry cold and not this humid, wet cold that we get in TX. Anyway - on with the trip.

We met two other couples up there and had a wonderful time. On Friday, the guys went skiing and the girls went to lunch in Vail and shopped around. I hadn't been to Vail in years and I have to admit that it's not my favorite ski town. I'm not a fan of being able to see the Interstate while you shop. The whole town is right off the Interstate, so it's kind of strange. But, they have a neat village and I'm sure it's really fun in the summer time too! I hear there are lots of music festivals and fun things to do. It was snowing pretty hard on Friday, so we didn't take any pictures except for these cute polar bears....

That evening, we drove a few miles to Lion's Head and went to a restaurant called Mezzaluna. It was good! I think everyone was pooped though....especially the guys since they'd been skiing all day.
It snowed almost the entire time we were in Beaver Creek/Vail. I think we saw a few minutes of blue skies, but that was it. The guys decided to brave it anyway and skied again on Saturday. The girls decided to pamper ourselves and get massages and pedicures - Ahhhhhhhhhh!!! So nice. Afterwards, we met the guys up on the mountain for lunch. They were covered in snow when they walked in and looked absolutely exhausted, but they all agreed that it was some of the best snow they'd skied in a long time.

Trey, Blair and Michael - ski bums
Dawn, me and Sommer
The Hubs and I - maybe our only pic during this trip.
Our last night included dinner at Spago (Thanks, Anthony!) and some lounging at The Ritz. Our dinner was incredible. We definitely got the "hook-up" - several complimentary appetizers and an AWESOME dessert!!! I knew Anthony would kill me if I took pics of the food so I didn't, but trust me - it was good!

After dinner, we lounged around and had some drinks (well, I watched while they had drinks). The Ritz has a big room with tons of sofas and comfy chairs to kick back in - along with a big fireplace. If you look closely at this pic you can also see a fire going outside with a big group of people making s'mores.
And don't worry Anthony....no one saw us taking these pics afterwards with the ice sculpture.
Silly...

And that was our little getaway! It was so nice to relax and do nothing for a few days. Hudson stayed home with my parents and I'm hoping my mom got some pics of him -

Although I had a great time in Beaver Creek/Vail - I think my favorite ski town is still Breckenridge.

If you had to choose a favorite ski destination, what would it be??

Snow Day!

Yep, you guessed it - it snowed last night and it's a frigid 17 degrees right now in TX. Everything in our little town is shut down. Not good timing for Mother Nature since it's Super Bowl week and there are events all over town planned for today and tonight. The snow isn't too bad. We Texans can actually manage to drive in the snow. It's the 2 or 3" of solid ice that makes us all hibernate. And that's what we've got today. The high today was 21 degrees and we hit that at 7am. Temps are dropping throughout the day and we're supposed to get down to 10 tonight. I love it!!

And so does the munchkin because he gets to stay home and play with his trains with Mommy and Daddy. Here's a video of him this morning.

Y'all stay warm out there!!!
