Pump It Up

Tuesday, March 13, 2012 | | 5 comments
Since the weather in March can be pretty unpredictable, we chose to have Hudson and Sheldon's birthdays at Pump It Up this year. It's a good thing. It was pouring down rain and 50 degrees. Three days prior, I had questioned myself on why we didn't choose the park because it was 80 degrees and sunny. Gotta love that Texas weather. You just never know what you're going to get.
On with it....... the boys were so excited to get there and start bouncing!

Getting them both to look at the camera - impossible!
We've got to work on Hudson's cheese face. He looks like he's in distress.
 Ready to slide!
Hudson's favorite way to go down is backwards on his tummy.

 Sweet Liam....

Sheldon's baby sister, Samantha. She's a month older than John Robert.
She had on her birthday outfit to celebrate her brother! So cute.
Future best bud of John Robert. This is Bales. He and JR are 4 months apart.
So glad that Heather (with Miss Sula) and Fitz could make it to the party!!
Hudson requested slide time with Mommy. Those slides are fast!!
The 3 amigos. Aiden, Hudson and Sheldon.
Their teacher has her hands full. Poor Mrs. Christy.
Might be the easiest party I've ever hosted. They set up everything for you!
Hudson and Sheldon loved their King chairs.
Both boys requested a Cars theme. Darcy had the cute cupcake toppers made.
 Darcy and Sheldon
Hudson decided that he and Sheldon should share a chair.
I'm not so sure Sheldon was happy about that.
These were the cute favor bags we put together on Friday night.
Each kid got a bag with a Lightning McQueen or Mater tied to it and lots of candy and stickers inside.
The stickers say: Thanks for racing by our party!
I could NOT believe the amount of gifts Hudson had to open.
And this doesn't even include the gifts from family.
Now I know why I've always said: No gifts, please.
I also got crafty and made a balloon wreath for our door at home.
Might be the easiest wreath I've ever made. Thank you Pinterest.

And now we're finished with Hudson's birthday! Until next year....shew.
Just so you don't think John Robert has been forgotten. He's here....happy as ever!

My 3 Year Old!

Monday, March 12, 2012 | | 3 comments
Hudson turned 3 last week! I haven't done an updated post on him in quite awhile, so humor me a bit and let me list out some things that Mr. Hud is doing these days. Afterall...this is their babybook :)

We haven't gone for his 3 year well check up, so I'm not sure of his official stats. I'm pretty sure he weighs about 34 lbs. and is probably around 36" tall.
Hudson is our VERY strong, independent, willful child. He wants to do things his way. All the time. I have a love/hate relationship with this side of him. I'm glad we're raising an independent child, BUT....man oh man, it can cause some major fireworks at times. Trey and I still have a lot to learn on the best way to handle a strong-willed child.
At the same time, Hudson is the sweetest, most helpful child too. I can't tell you how many times he's been saying this phrase lately - "Mommy, you're my best friend." and "Mommy, I love you." - just out of the blue. Melts my heart every.single.time. And he's been very sweet to John Robert too. He may play the jealousy card every once in awhile, but he loves to take care of his baby brother. He hands him toys or pats bangs on his back when he coughs. He loves to tell JR to "keep dose hands out of dat mouth!" He's heard us talk to John Robert in a certain way, so Hudson imitates the same type of voice. "Hiiiiiiiiiiii John Rooooobert." It's hilarious. Need to get it on video.

Things Hudson can do these days:
-- can say and identify his ABC's
-- can count to 20 or so?? Maybe more.
-- can say 1-10 in Spanish
-- knows his right and left
-- knows his way around our city like the back of his hand. Tells me when I'm going the wrong way.
-- eats with a spoon and fork (most of the time)
-- drinks out of a regular cup....although he still prefers a straw.
-- knows all of his colors
-- can spell his name
-- can WRITE his name. He did this yesterday and I had NO idea he could do it.
-- knows his street name, city and state that he lives in
-- can do somersaults
-- hops and jumps all over the place
-- knows lots and lots of songs and loves to sing them.
-- eats like a champ. His favorites are still: broccoli, mashed potatoes, cauliflower, chicken, sausage, pancakes, chips and queso (he takes after me!), beans, rice, any kind of fruit except pineapple. And of course....french fries! The boy loves him some "Chickalay" (Chick Fil-A).
-- has the best imagination. I love hearing him make up stories with his toys.
-- his favorite toys: Any kind of car, truck, train or construction equipment. He loves to be outside too!
-- he loves books.
-- very opinionated about what he wants to wear - clothes and shoes. (Constant battle)
-- hates having water in his face (in the bath when I wash his hair), but he's getting better.
-- loves making friends.

I think that's enough. Now...on with his actual birthday if y'all are still reading :)

I decided to go get a dozen balloons and put them outside of Hud's room so he would see them when he woke up. I debated on putting them IN his room, but I thought that might freak him out. So...the hallway it was. He loved it!

We had to take them all downstairs
We let him open one gift from Aunt Berta before school.
A new safari wooden train set - I think he liked it, what do you think???
His birthday shirt.
One of his best buddies, Sheldon also has a March birthday - on the 10th. They're in the same class, so it's easy to celebrate their birthdays together. And they love it.
I took cupcakes to his school after lunch for both boys...and their class, of course.
These two are all boy. Always wrestling or climbing on each other.
It's a good thing Sheldon's family owns the school. :) Maybe we won't get kicked out afterall.

Cupcakes?? Oh yeah. Hud chose vanilla and refused to take a good picture.
Little goofball.
Later that evening, we had a little family birthday party at our house. My mom - sticking with tradition - made Hudson a birthday cake. She outdid herself once again. He requested a Jungle Junction cake.
I bought a # 3 sparkler to put in the cake. Yeah, bad idea.
Scared Hudson half to death when we lit it and it started sparkling all over the place.
Oops! It didn't stop me from snapping pictures though.
Don't worry....daddy was there to comfort. And the tears didn't last long.
See? He's digging into Ellyvan now.
Don't mind anyone else that might want cake, Hud.
The biggest surprise was his new JEEP.
Always the serious one in new situations......

We had to keep reminding him to watch where he was going!!
This face shows you how much he loves having his picture taken.....
You think he'd be used to it by now.

And that was Hudson's 3rd birthday! Well, not really. We also had a big party at Pump It Up, but this post is already too long so I'll save those pictures for another day.

Happy 3rd Birthday, my sweet boy!!!
We love you so much.
xoxo

Lots to catch up on...

I've been horrible about posting lately. Lots and lots to catch up on....we've been busy.

March has lots of birthdays for us and we just added one more to the mix. My cousin, Erin welcomed baby girl, Eva Marie on March 2nd. Yay!!! She was a tiny little thing weighing in at 5 lbs. 15oz and 18.5" long. She's beautiful and sweet and perfect.

Erin, Miss Eva and me at 4.30am :)
And some recent pics of Eva at home. She's so adorable!
Here she is in one of the outfits Aunt Sara bought her.

Needless to say - Erin and Perry are on cloud 9 with their new little bundle of joy.
Can't wait for John Robert and Eva to be best buds.

Next on the list -- Trey's 39th birthday. Yep...the hubby has the big one next year. It's so hard to believe that we're closer to 40 than 20 these days. When did that happen???? We celebrated low key this year by having a date night in Dallas at a restaurant called Local. It was sooooooo good. Honestly, I can't wait to go back because EVERYTHING on the menu looked awesome. We started off with their signature dish
Fried Green Beans
I chose the panko and cornflake crusted seabass over parmesan risotto and haricort verts.
It was wonderful. wonderful. wonderful.  Also, please notice that melted bowl of goodness - that was the mascarpone macaroni and cheese. Holy yumminess!

So, if you're ever in Dallas or live nearby - I highly recommend this restaurant. Like I said, I can't wait to go back. We decided against dessert, but it all sounded delicious. We were so full afterwards that we went straight home and went to bed. Party animals!

Trey's actual birthday was on Sunday. He requested to spend the day as a family, so that's what we did. We had such a fun day. The weather was gorgeous, so we loaded up the boys in the stroller and walked over to a nearby restaurant called, Loveshack. Perfect patio weather and live music. On the way home, we stopped off at the duck pond and the park, of course.

Chunky monkey is a drooling, bubble blowing machine these days.
He cut his bottom 2 teeth a couple of weeks ago and I'm pretty sure he's working on his top 2 teeth now.
I tried to get Hudson and JR to stand in front of this painted concrete pillar, but getting a picture of both of them together is no small task.

I think Trey had a pretty good birthday.
Next on the list? Hudson's 3rd Birthday!!!
